Finally Spring!

The weather has turned and it looks like Spring has finally arrived. Our patience has paid off (well, really, what choice did we have?!). I will take it!

Now is the time to look to small, lighter-weight projects, easy travel pieces that you can pick up and take with you on day trips or extended vacations. We have cotton and cotton blend yarns that are perfect for that summer sweater, tank top or lightweight shawl. Two yarns I recommend are Kraemer’s Organic Cotton and Bernat’s Cotton-ish.

Kraemer Organic Cotton is 100% organic combed cotton, fingering weight in a 100 gram hank at approximately 350 yards and undyed. Gauge is 7 stitches to the inch using US#2 knitting needles (can also be crocheted, of course!). You can use it natural and undyed or dye it your favorite spring/summer colors. If you use a double strand it’s great for spa cloths, too!

Bernat Cotton-ish is a cotton blend of 55% cotton, 45% acrylic, light worsted (double knit) weight at approximately 282 yards and comes in a variety of lovely colors. Gauge is 22 stitches x 28 rows for a 4 inch square using US#6 knitting needles or 16 single crochet x 18 rows for a 4 inch square using US#6/G crochet hook. This yarn has wonderful drape, so is perfect for summer shawls. Summer garments of all styles would work up quickly and beautifully with Cotton-ish.

Need project ideas? We’ve got pattern books, magazines and inspiration throughout the shop! Stop in and let me help you choose just the right yarn and project. We have everything to make your fiber dreams a reality!

Until next time, keep stitchin’!
